FInnish synthwave heavy metal by Stögö

Welcome to the official site

THE PROJECT

One-man army project from Finland, Tampere. Inspired by synthwave/retrowave genre, b-movies, video games, and bands like Nightstop, Megahammer, and Wolf & Raven. Stögö combines its music with heavy metal and melodic synthwave vibes. The name "Stögö" (or internationally titled "Stogo") was invented between 2008-2009. In that time, the project was meant to be a joke with bizarre and complicated guitar riffs played with 8-string electric guitar. Many, many years later, somewhere between year 2018-2019 "Stögö" has returned to be something more than a bizarre project. It blows vibes from unknown zones of synthwave and heavy metal atmosphere.Musically "Stögö" is synthwave heavy metal. Themes are mixed with real-life stupidity/humor, fantasy, video games, adult entertainment, and b-movies. "Stögö" is independent in the present day.

STORIES BEHIND THE ALBUMS

From this page, you can find some information about the making of albums so far.

Katana (2023)

This was the first release and the beginning of the era of Stögö. The year 2023 was a very productive time for the project. Many songs had already been written, waiting for it to be released. Everything must be ready as soon as possible. I even created and used, as I do nowadays, images that are made by AI. Well, I cannot paint or draw, so this was the only way to create something as good as possible. Songs are not recorded by any AI, that's a promise. Some songs are a little bit experimental and/or in progress. Yet not every song is as good as it should be. I was practicing mixing heavy metal and synthwave sounds together. The final mix is a little bit lame, but somewhere I have had to start, I think. Also singing in the album was the next level to be surpassed. I tried some weird stylish squawk singing in this and a couple of next albums, but later I gave up on that because it wasn't as good as I thought. Some songs from the album are fine, like "Räjähdys Tissibaarissa" (aka Destruction of the Boob Club) and "Poikittain" (aka Crosswise). Still, Katana is some point a fine release.

ROTTEN RABBIT (2023)

This project started, believe it or not, between the years 2004-2006, when I was a teenage youngster. Many, many years later I finally recorded and released the album.Rotten Rabbit is the only album so far with a short and bizarre tale. It's about a common rabbit (or hare) who died being to get hit by a truck. Later a dead rabbit, or in this case "the rotten rabbit, the chosen one", resurrects from the dead and takes control of the world. A long story short. The album is more heavy metal than other releases because it was originally written as it's more progressive metal music. Good track choices are "Rotten Rabbit" and "Resurrection of the Rabbit".

TYRANNIN TIIKERINSILMÄ (2023)

Tyrannin Tiikerinsilmä is the release I enjoy the least. As I mentioned before, I have had to make and release as much music as possible in a short time. And the result was not as good as I hoped.I was still practicing and trying to mix experimental things with heavy metal and synthwave genre-type music. The focus wasn't sharp enough to criticize me. Maybe I will learn more and won't make the same mistake in the future. And I mean I don't make albums hastily because I "have to" release them very soon.Well, there are some good songs like "Puhtaat Hampaat" (aka Clean Teeth) and "Ruumiita, Gorea & Tissejä" (aka Bodies, Gore & Boobs) in the album. Still, I'm not proud of this release after all. I think this one will be forgotten in the lost space of bits.

VAMPYRE GODS (2023)

The last album in the year 2023. Vampyre Gods is the most aggressive and the least synthwave genre release so far. I recommend this album if you like songs with the stormy and raw mix.Every song is written in English because I wanted to make an album that's more international. I like to conquer and share my music in other countries and I thought it would be a good idea to release an album like Vampyre Gods.As I mentioned, the mix is stormy and chaotic. At that time I got inspiration from bands like Nifelheim, Kreator, and Venom. But I didn't forget the synthwave, but that sound wasn't in the main role. Some songs I'd like to recommend are the giallo-stylish "Crystalize Nymphomaniac" and the single tracks Neon Horizons and Time Commando.

GALAKSIEN SOTA (2025)

This is the album I'm very proud of. Long time I've searched the style for Stögö and I think I've finally found it. Galaksien Sota is the genre Stögö has sculpted for and is meant to be. Lots of different synthwave sounds are pure and powerful. That's what I think of it.In my opinion, every track in Galaksien Sota has its creativity, style, and vibe which demerged from the others. Also, I finally have given up with that squawk singing style. I'm braver to sing as clean as I can nowadays. The style is still a little bit raw, but not too weird. What can I say more? Well, listen to tracks like "Big Ass City", "Vessojen Siivooja" (aka The Toilet Cleaner), and the single track, lycanthropic "We Feel the Night".
